Joey

Joey is a 10 years young beagle/cocker mix looking for his forever home! Don't let his age fool you; he's still an energetic dog who can chase a ball for hours. Joey's previous owner raised him since he was a puppy, but unfortunately had to go to a nursing home when she could no longer take care of him. Joey craves attention, loves to snuggle, and is an excellent lap dog. He's used to being the king of the castle and will need a patient and loving home willing to work with him and his strong sense of ownership over toys and treats. He is house trained, walks well on a leash, gets along well with dogs and cats, and would do best in a home with no children.

If you're looking for an energetic and lovable dog, Joey might be the guy for you!

Hannah

Hannah is a truly sweet, cuddly, lovable beagle girl, kind of fluffy and squeezable! She’s very easy to have around and gets along well with everyone – including the 5 other dogs and 2 cats in her foster home. Hannah initially came to Hound Rescue back in the summer with severe glaucoma in her left eye and glaucoma, severe trauma and no vision in her right eye. The trauma to her right eye has healed and the glaucoma is under control with eye drops, but she still has no vision in it. The glaucoma in her left eye improved slightly during the fall, but in January, her left eye ulcerated and had to be removed, so she is now completely blind. But Hannah has adjusted well and is a very happy girl! She enjoys poking around the house and back yard and just generally lounging around, and loves being fussed over. Our sense is that Hannah does best having at least one other dog in the home, since she is able to take their lead and they function as her “eyes.” Hannah’s foster parents truly treasure her and Hannah knows the lay of the land and is very comfortable in her foster home. However, it is possible that Hannah would fare better in a home where someone is home more of the time and could devote more time to her and provide a more engaging environment for her. We want Hannah to have the best possible home, so we will be happy to talk to you about this sweet, deserving girl if you feel yours is the perfect forever home for Hannah!

Holly

Holly has the sweetest little face to go with her sweet, simple personality! She is a very quiet girl. Initially her foster parents thought this was just her nature, but they gradually realized that Hannah is deaf. This is not a problem, at least not for humans. In fact, the plus side to deaf beagles is that they rarely bark! It doesn’t seem to present too much of a problem for Holly, either. Holly just lives a simple dog life, poking around the yard and lounging. She’s generally low-activity, but she absolutely loves going for walks! Holly gets along well with the 5 other dogs and 2 cats in her foster home. (Yes, she’s fostered in the same home with our blind girl, Hannah, along with Buddy.) She’s happy to meet new people, but during a recent trip to the vet, really loved meeting all of the dogs in the waiting room. Due to her deafness, she sometimes startles easily and lets out a loud bark if her personal space is invaded too closely, so it would probably be best not to have babies or toddlers in the home. Otherwise, Holly is an easy keeper, very companionable, and would do well in almost any forever home!

Reese

Reese is new to the Hound Rescue program, so we are still learning about him and will post more information in a week or so. We do know that he is handsome and very friendly! He seems to do well around other dogs, but chases cats. The shelter records say he is 7 years old, but he has a good energy level and his behavior makes him seem younger. He pulls hard on the leash and does need some training for that. He seems to be housebroken. Overall, Reese appears to be a dog who will be a friendly, lovable addition to a home!

Buddy

Buddy is a 10-year-old dachshund-miniature pinscher mix – or something like that – one of those “who knows?” dogs. Mostly he’s just a cute little guy, very friendly and easygoing. He loves walks, is very well-behaved when taken places, and rides great in the car. He gets along just fine with the 5 other dogs in his foster home. He does chase the cats, so a cat-free home is recommended. He is housebroken, not destructive, and not much of a barker. Buddy would do well in either a house or an apartment, although a secure yard is a must, since he is a bit of an escape artist. Buddy would fit well into almost any home – maybe yours!

Max

Max is a 7 year old puggle. He was our first "son". He's moved around with us from NJ, to VA, to Texas. He needs a home that does not have young children. He has grown increasingly jealous of our toddler. He is energetic--loves playing in the yard or with his toys--and also loves to cuddle and sleep! Like most pugs he is very food motivated---and will never miss a meal or opportunity for a snack or treat! He is house broken.

Pippa

Pippa turned into a wonderful companion at her foster family. She is a very gentle soul, on the quiet side. She loves sitting and napping by your side, enjoys the soft blanket, the warm fire-place and the sunny backyard. She is very good on a leash and is not bothered by passing dogs or cats. She currently lives with three different sizes dogs and four cats. She is in good relations with all of them. Often she takes naps with the German Shepherd and the cat on a big dog bed. She will stay in a crate if needed but prefers her favorite spot on the chair by the window. She loves treats and will dance for a treat, however she needs to watch her weight.

Pippa is a healthy, very attractive, six-year old beagle who is missing the end of her tail, but it does not make her less beautiful. Her foster family can say only the best things about Pippa. She knows how to use the dog-door but if it is locked, she may have an accident inside.

Charlie

Charlie is a handsome young hound mix with beautiful reddish-brown and black coloring and amber eyes. He stands a little taller than a Beagle (about 18 inches at the shoulder) and, once he's fully filled out, will be about 30 lbs. He has all the energy and curiosity you would expect of an "adolescent", combined with a friendly and affectionate personality. He is housebroken and crate-trained, and his foster family is working with him on basic obedience. He is also learning to walk on a leash, and he is on his way to becoming a great exercise partner. Charlie is in a foster home with two mature Beagles who are helping him improve his social skills. While he is friendly and playful with the other dogs, he is working on respecting their space boundaries and sharing attention from the humans. He is content to play with chew toys and towels, so the furniture and shoes around his foster home are safe!

Overall, Charlie is a strong and healthy boy. However, he is Heartworm positive and is undergoing the initial stages of treatment.

Riley

Hello, my name is Riley, but my foster family calls me Smiley… Rub my belly, and you will find out why. I am a 100% house trained beagle girl who is looking for a loving forever home. I have excellent manners, know basic commands, crate and leash trained. I am very friendly and getting alone well with people (including children), dogs, and cats! I am living in a foster home with 2 beagle sisters, 2 cats and my human foster brother. I love chewable bones and keep myself busy “working”on them for a long time. I am 5 years old and love to stay active. I am currently working hard on losing some extra weight, and will appreciate your help with that! Can’t wait to meet my family!
