Below are the dogs currently available in the Austin, TX area. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and a home visit is required. The adoption fee for most of these dogs is $200, puppies are $250, seniors $150; if a dog is not spayed or neutered we require a $75 deposit, which is refundable once surgery is performed.
The page is updated regularly, please scroll to the bottom of the page to see all of our available dogs.
Also, [Application Pending] means the dog does have an application, but backups are welcome and [Adoption Pending] means the dog is in an adoptive home on the trial period, but has not yet been adopted so we will still accept applications until the adoption is finalized.
We've recently had significant medical expenses for some of our hounds. If you would like to help with these expenses, please consider making a donation to Hound Rescue! For more donation options, see our Donate page.
BB is a great young beagle. He came to HR after presumably being hit by a car - or something that broke his jaw. You wouldn't know it - he had surgery and it's plated and he's unaware he's not just your average beagle! He minds well, although is a bit slow to warm up to new people and will bark at new dogs. It takes him about 15 minutes to warm up to someone new and he did bark other dogs at the vet's office.
BB does not even resemble the dog we took from the shelter! He is just a character and a half. We think he'll do best with a companion when he is adopted. He has gained confidence since coming to HR, prancing around his foster home like he is a German Shepherd. He is getting along wonderfully with the other dogs in his foster home once everyone settled in.

Hi my name is Trixie! I came to rescue because my previous owner was facing some very serious health issues and also because of a recent surgery that I underwent, he was unable to continue taking care of me during both of our recoveries. I have adapted very quickly to my new surroundings and I love my foster Mom! I get along very well with my 2 new dog companions and have learned to enjoy but respect my first kitty! My back is getting a little better every day and the Doc says hopefully it will continue to do so. I do have an occasional accident but having a doggy door is definitely helping, so hopefully I can find a home that has one too! Of course I love to go on walks and I also love to fetch and play tug of war with my favorite toys. One of the things I love to do most besides going for a walk, is making sure the birds and squirrels in my backyard know who's boss!
If you can find it in your heart to give me a second chance at a wonderful life despite my flaws, I will forever pay you back with lots of fun and tons of unconditional love!

Ace came to Hound Rescue after being surrendered to a local shelter after his owner died. He's clearly been pampered and ruled the roost and may need some help with learning new rules in his new home. He has been fine with other dogs but we have no idea about cats. He has no history around kids, so we think he'll do best in an adult-only home. We're still learning about this guy, so check back for more info.

Raspberry aka Raz is a small 4 year old beagle who just loves to lay on the couch. He's sharing a home right now with a bullmastiff boy and Rhodesian ridgeback girl and gets along great with both. He is on meds to prevent seizures – alas seizures are very common in beagles and usually very well controlled with meds. He has been fine with the children in his foster home, but it is clear he'd prefer to be in a family with older, or very calm, younger children. Raz is a sweet little guy who has endeared himself to his foster family, but is ready for a home of his own.

Joey is a 10 years young beagle/cocker mix looking for his forever home! Don't let his age fool you; he's still an energetic dog who can chase a ball for hours. Joey's previous owner raised him since he was a puppy, but unfortunately had to go to a nursing home when she could no longer take care of him. Joey craves attention, loves to snuggle, and is an excellent lap dog. He's used to being the king of the castle and will need a patient and loving home willing to work with him and his strong sense of ownership over toys and treats. He is house trained, walks well on a leash, gets along well with dogs and cats, and would do best in a home with no children.
If you're looking for an energetic and lovable dog, Joey might be the guy for you!

Wizard is another middle-ager recently pulled from a local pound. He's been a good boy, pretty easy going and getting along fine with the resident dog, tho rumor has it not a cat lover. Wizard has had a few seizures - common for beagles - but is responding very well to medication. He'll make someone a fantastic pet!

Percy is a 2 year old boy with fantastic manners, he is house trained, does not beg for food, loves to sleep, sit and cuddle! We really can't say enough good things about this boy. He is on benadryl for some mild allergies. If you're looking for a 2 year old who loves to play and will melt your heart he is the boy for you!

Cleo is a very sweet beagle mix with a lot of love to give. He and his foster brother Max were rescued from a very high kill shelter with only one day left. Cleo came out of the shelter a very sick boy, but with a fully wagging tail. He had a bad elbow infection and a horrible bout of kennel cough. His elbow has since healed and the kennel cough is gone. He will start his heartworm treatment in June. Don't let that scare you, though. He is a perfect dog is every other way!
Cleo is a snuggler and would spend all day on your lap if you let him. He LOVES attention and will steal it if he has to! He adores people. He is a huge fan of belly rubs and will lie on his back in your lap just so your hand can rest on his tummy.
He gets along very well with other dogs and children. He does NOT like cats, so his perfect home will be cat-free.

Buddy has been doing great so far! It took him a bit to get used to his new home when he first arrived on Thursday night but after his first day he has established himself as part of the family. He is very friendly, typically following me around from room to room whenever I’m home and loves to sit next to me for a nice belly rub whenever I’m on the couch. Actually, he seems to REALLY like it when you pet him - he even rolls around to make sure you don’t miss any spots! Buddy has become fast friends with the resident beagle and they enjoy playing with each other quite a bit. They have a great time playing chase, wrestling and other dog-like games with no issue. They love it when their foster dad joins them for some beagle games but have a lot of fun playing on their own or just hanging out together.
Buddy appears to be housebroken and is doing well in the crate overnight. He's proven to be a bit of a counter surfer and laundry thief – but what good beagle isn't? His foster dad is working to train him away from such behaviors tho and has confirmed he knows “sit” and “down,” so they’re working on shake right now. Buddy does have heartworms, if adopted prior to treatment Hound Rescue will cover the cost of treatment at the local clinic we use in Austin.

Rubi is a fun-loving beagle girl who will best with a committed owner willing to invest some time into training her. She is super smart and has used this to her advantage, she'll do best in a home where the rules are clear and consistent. She can be loud so we do not recommend she be placed in an apartment, not to mention she loves to play in the yard although she'll also do well with a very active owner who is willing to humor her love of walks.
Rubi does well with other dogs and cats, but shouldn't be paired up with another dominant girl. She's been an easy keeper for her foster family who is giving her the direction she needs to be the best beagle she can be!
