Shelly

Shelly, fondly called Chick by her foster family, is a laid-back, sweet girl, wise and greyed beyond her years. She loves dogs, people, and kids. She loves a good snuggle and rub but also likes time alone on a soft couch, rug, or in the kennel. She will do zoomies in the yard and play chase with the pack. She loves a good sunning, too!

It seems Shelly had hard life. She can be shy, timid and even scared by sudden movements or loud voices. She is slowly learning that people mean love.

She is housebroken and picks up quickly on new commands. Shelly has this sweet little slow wag to her tail and the best dinner dance you’ve ever seen! Will Shelly be your next dance partner?

Melo

Melo is a handsome 4-year-old male beagle mix. He's mostly your typical beagle - loves walks, chasing squirrels in the backyard, engaging in barkfests through the fence with neighbors' dogs, lounging on the couch. He is an experienced apartment dweller and would do fine in that setting. Melo is friendly with people and gets along well with the 3 other dogs in his foster home. He's a bit cat-curious - fine if they're just hanging out quietly in a room or moving slowly, but will chase them if they run. It really depends on how bold the cat is around dogs.

However, there are only some families who will be able to work with Melo's special personality. He can be strong-willed and obstinate. If he has something he wants, he will not give it up, especially if it is food-related - food, food bowls, used napkins, bones, etc.- as well as certain toys and other objects. He cannot be redirected by pulling on his collar. Melo should not be in a home with children or where children visit frequently. He would do well in a home with a single person or couple with significant dog experience who would be willing to work with a trainer to establish structures and boundaries. His behavior has improved in the months that he has been with his foster family and become more at ease.

Melo is very affectionate with his foster parents and typically hangs out in the same room with his foster mom when she's home. Sometimes he's like a goofy kid. Melo is a terrific dog 98% of the time and is well-worth the necessary training and effort, along with a good dose of TLC.

Are you ready and willing to take this sweet boy under your wing?

Sam

Hound Rescue is urgently looking for an adult-only home with dog experience and no other pets to foster or adopt Sam.

Sam is a gorgeous young dog, very striking - he was a big hit at Dogtoberfest last fall. We believe his breed to be Colombian fino hound, possibly a mix. Sam looks like a beagle-basset mix, only 3 times as large as a typical beagle! He is very friendly and good-natured and absolutely loves his people. However, Sam strongly needs training, structure and routine and cannot live in a home with other dogs. Sam would be best in a home with no cats.

Sam is very strong and still has a lot of young dog energy, so needs lots of outlets for that energy, especially considering his size. He should not be in a home with young children, as he can be overwhelming with them. He needs an experienced dog owner who can handle a strong and energetic dog and commit to a structured training program and routine. Hound Rescue will cover the cost of training for a committed owner willing to work with him.

Sam will reward the right owner with all his exuberance and love!

Bailey

Bailey is a sweet, friendly dog who just wants to be close to her person. Her foster mom referred to her as a Velcro dog; she wants to snuggle right next to you and doesn’t like to let you out her sight. She’s very social, always wants to meet other dogs and people. Bailey has started to enjoy playing with toys in her foster home. She gets along with the other dog in her foster home, but doesn’t play with him very much. She can be possessive of food and treats around other dogs. Bailey suffers from some skin allergies, but her condition has improved with baths and meds. She is housebroken and uses a doggy door. She isn’t fond of the crate, but will go in if enticed with treats.

Bailey will be the perfect dog for someone looking for a laid-back snuggler!

He loves short walks and roaming around the dog park. Chai has been seen soaking up the sunshine on the back patio. He's a quiet boy but not shy in letting you know he wants attention.

He is well behaved when left alone for short periods of time. Chai's a great car rider, too.

Julie & Faith

Sometimes we come across a dog that pulls on our heartstrings. In this case it was a bonded pair of girls, Julie and Faith. These ladies were owner surrendered by an owner that could no longer care for them. Faith and Julie are a team; where one goes the other follows! These sweet girls love to just hang out and chill. Food, water, soft beds and some cuddles are all these gals need. However, couch privileges are appreciated. These seniors are heartworm positive and too aged for typical treatment. We are hoping to find just the right place for the lovely ladies to spend their remaining years. Oh, no cats please.

Stacey

Stacey is a Treeing walker / foxhound mix with beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart. Stacey is very energetic and smart, she likes to learn if you are smart enough to teach her! She loves to work for food that is of high value. She loves to play and run – if you need a running partner, Stacey is your girl! She communicates very well if you can learn her “language.” Stacey likes to stay occupied with chew toys and these are a regular part of her routine, otherwise she can get bored easily. She tends to snore when she is asleep.

Stacey knows how to sit, stay, touch, play dead and give both paws. She loves the outdoors and thrives in a structured environment. She is probably the first dog ever we’ve placed who has passed her Canine Good Citizen test, but as always she will need to keep up with her training. To keep Stacey’s behavior well-mannered, she needs to earn or work for whatever she wants. Stacey will do better with older children.

Stacey is available through PAWS. For more information or to apply for adoption, please contact Cris Burton: seaelbee@yahoo.com

Sookie

Sookie is a sweet beagle girl, 11 years young. She is very agile and you would never know she's 11 years old, except for the graying around her face. She loves walks and gets two walks a day (can go a mile or more for each walk). She pulls the leash to go where she wants; a "Gentle Leader" harness has helped with her pulling. Sookie is a loving dog. She loves to cuddle on the couch, and she'll flop over on you and have you scratch her belly. She loves men and is always attracted to the alpha in the house. She loves being a part of a pack and wants to be around you while relaxing in the house. She'll probably take over your couch too, even if you have dog beds all around.

Sookie is food obsessed, which led to some aggressive behavior with the toddler in her previous home, so she needs to be carefully monitored around all food and should be in a home without young children. Aside from that, Sookie is a delightful dog looking for a cozy forever home!

Raina

Raina is a true lady and a smart one at that. She is one of the easiest dogs her foster mom has ever trained, and it did not take her long at all to be house trained, to sit and stay, and to use the doggy door. She still needs work on not barking at meal time, but she will sit and stay while her foster mom gets her food ready. They are also working to get her not to jump up on people (almost there) or run out an open door. She follows commands well once she learns them. She does not bark much, but she does rumble this soft, siren-like whine. Raina also still has that puppy skittishness where she is easily startled by unfamiliar sounds, like delivery trucks and sounds near a construction site. Until she is more comfortable around unfamiliar sounds she needs to be walked using a harness rather than a leash attached to her collar.

Raina is a tall, leggy, energetic dog who loves her outings, and frankly she NEEDS her morning constitutional and really appreciates one at night as well. If you love to run around Town Lake, Raina is the dog for you. If you love to socialize at the dog park while your dog does the same, Raina is the dog for you. If you like to meet your neighbors, Raina is the dog for you. Other than dinner, there is nothing better in Raina’s world than a walk where she just stops and sniffs to her hearts content while you stand there and catch up on local gossip.

Now, if you love to snuggle up on the sofa with your dog and watch a movie, Raina is not the dog for you. Raina does not jump up on furniture. Raina does not jump up on beds. She won’t even consider it. What she does want is for you to sit on the floor with her and watch TV. She will crawl into your lap and lean her entire body against your chest, resting her head on your shoulder. She will do this once she feels entirely comfortable with you. She likes it even more when the other dogs come and join in on the love. Raina is a girl who prefers her own dog bed.

Raina is, in short, a romantic. This is a girl who needs a forever home with someone who loves to take long walks (rain optional), socialize, enjoy the great outdoors, and snuggle. Best of all, she’ll share your coffee if you set your cup somewhere she can reach it. You know...a romantic.

Hutch

Hutch is a calm, healthy boy who still has plenty of pep in his step. He is a classic beagle, both in his physical appearance and personality. He is very friendly and affectionate and loves to follow his humans around the house. He enjoys a good game of chase or fetch, but is also happy to curl up and take a nap.

Hutch has mastered basic sit, stay, and down commands, and if told to "wait" when you open the door to go outside, he will sit patiently until released. He is definitely food-motivated, which makes training and correcting him easy. His foster family is working with him to improve his leash skills. In typical beagle style, his hound nose is always in search of good smells when he goes on a walk.

Overall, Hutch is an easygoing beagle with a gentle temperament. He is well-socialized with dogs and people, housebroken and crate-trained. He will do best in a home where he can go on regular walks for exercise, and it would be ideal if someone in the family was home at least part of the day. He loves being with his pack!
