Below are the dogs currently available in the Austin, TX area. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and a home visit is required. The adoption fee for most of these dogs is $200, puppies are $250, seniors $150; if a dog is not spayed or neutered we require a $75 deposit, which is refundable once surgery is performed.
The page is updated regularly, please scroll to the bottom of the page to see all of our available dogs.
Also, [Application Pending] means the dog does have an application, but backups are welcome and [Adoption Pending] means the dog is in an adoptive home on the trial period, but has not yet been adopted so we will still accept applications until the adoption is finalized.
We've recently had significant medical expenses for some of our hounds. If you would like to help with these expenses, please consider making a donation to Hound Rescue! For more donation options, see our Donate page.
BB is a great young beagle. He came to HR after presumably being hit by a car - or something that broke his jaw. You wouldn't know it - he had surgery and it's plated and he's unaware he's not just your average beagle! He minds well, although is a bit slow to warm up to new people and will bark at new dogs. It takes him about 15 minutes to warm up to someone new and he did bark at other dogs at the vet's office.
BB does not even resemble the dog we took from the shelter! He is just a character and a half. We think he'll do best with a companion when he is adopted. He has gained confidence since coming to HR, prancing around his foster home like he is a German Shepherd. He is getting along wonderfully with the other dogs in his foster home once everyone settled in.

Raspberry aka Raz is a small 4 year old beagle who just loves to lay on the couch. He's sharing a home right now with a bullmastiff boy and Rhodesian ridgeback girl and gets along great with both. He is on meds to prevent seizures – alas seizures are very common in beagles and usually very well controlled with meds. He has been fine with the children in his foster home, but it is clear he'd prefer to be in a family with older, or very calm, younger children. Raz is a sweet little guy who has endeared himself to his foster family, but is ready for a home of his own.

Cleo is a very sweet beagle mix with a lot of love to give. He and his foster brother Max were rescued from a very high kill shelter with only one day left.
Cleo is a snuggler and would spend all day on your lap if you let him. He LOVES attention and will steal it if he has to! He adores people. He is a huge fan of belly rubs and will lie on his back in your lap just so your hand can rest on his tummy.
He gets along very well with other dogs and children. He does NOT like cats, so his perfect home will be cat-free.

Joey is a 10 years young beagle/cocker mix looking for his forever home! Don't let his age fool you; he's still an energetic dog who can chase a ball for hours. Joey's previous owner raised him since he was a puppy, but unfortunately had to go to a nursing home when she could no longer take care of him. Joey craves attention, loves to snuggle, and is an excellent lap dog. He's used to being the king of the castle and will need a patient and loving home willing to work with him and his strong sense of ownership over toys and treats. He is house trained, walks well on a leash, gets along well with dogs and cats, and would do best in a home with no children.
If you're looking for an energetic and lovable dog, Joey might be the guy for you!

TBone is a young energetic small beagle. He is looking for a family that likes a lot of walks, playing fetch, and teaching him new tricks. Tbone craves a lot of love and obviously likes to be with the family at all times. He has a strong personality and knows what he wants; if he rather not do something (ex. go outside) he may get snappy, so we recommend he does not live with small children. His foster family will be working with a trainer to help control this behavior.
He is a very social dog and enjoys other dogs and cats. He is working on his manners and tends to like to jump up on people and the counters, but he is learning quickly. He loves his crate at night and has figured out how to keep it clean. He occasionally has accidents indoors, but is working on the problem.
Tbone deserves a loving home with a lot of attention and love!

Mandy is a harrier mix, 2-3 years old. She stands taller than your typical beagle, long and lean, a beautiful body. When Mandy was first pulled from a shelter, she was unable to use her hind legs due to a probable spinal cord injury. After two days of receiving laser therapy and meds, she was able to walk and even run a little. It seemed miraculous! She continued on a laser therapy regimen and improved a great deal, though her gait is still a bit stilted. But that sure doesn’t stop her, as she rips around the yard chasing squirrels and playing with other dogs in the household! Mandy needs heartworm treatment, which is scheduled for mid-July, and she should be ready to resume normal activities after a 4-6 week recovery period. In general her quality of life is very good and vets believe she can have a good, long, healthy life.
Mandy is a very sweet girl, quite the cuddler, sometimes a little shy when first meeting people, but quite devoted to the people in her life. Mandy has a bit of a serious demeanor, which is somehow enchanting. She gets along fine with other dogs, though not trustworthy around cats. She is housebroken and great in the crate. She enjoys having a yard, but would probably also do fine in an apartment setting, since she is not much of a barker. We don’t know anything about Mandy’s life before she came to Hound Rescue, but she was a great save. Now she just needs that very special forever family!

Patriot is your basic good, friendly beagle boy. His foster mom reports that he is very affectionate. Patriot loves being outside and has a great deal of fun romping around the yard with the two dogs in his foster home, then chilling out in front of the TV on his favorite dog bed. He is scheduled for heartworm treatment in late July, then should be good as new after a 4-6 week recovery period. Patriot will be happy to find his perfect home!
Please note, a high speed camera may be needed to capture Patriot's extremely happy tail wagging!

Levi is a small lemon beagle with the heart of gold. He is a snuggle bug and wants nothing more to be near you! He loves attention and is willing to do anything to get it from you. Levi was found as a stray and was rescued by Hound Rescue. He went through heartworm treatment and now tests heartworm negative. He is wonderful with people of all ages and other animals. Right now he lives with 3 other dogs and 2 children.
Levi would benefit from a family that can spend a lot of time with him. He is a very social dog but might be better as the king of the castle. He is doggie door trained but needs to be reminded to go outside at times. He responds wonderfully to treats and has good manners. He sleeps in a crate at night and doesn't make a peep. Levi is a wonderful little dog that deserves a great family.

Hi my name is Trixie! I came to rescue because my previous owner was facing some very serious health issues and also because of a recent surgery that I underwent, he was unable to continue taking care of me during both of our recoveries. I have adapted very quickly to my new surroundings and I love my foster Mom! I get along very well with my 2 new dog companions and have learned to enjoy but respect my first kitty! My back is getting a little better every day and the Doc says hopefully it will continue to do so. I do have an occasional accident but having a doggy door is definitely helping, so hopefully I can find a home that has one too! Of course I love to go on walks and I also love to fetch and play tug of war with my favorite toys. One of the things I love to do most besides going for a walk, is making sure the birds and squirrels in my backyard know who's boss!
If you can find it in your heart to give me a second chance at a wonderful life despite my flaws, I will forever pay you back with lots of fun and tons of unconditional love!
